Taking a Leap

Taking a Leap

After launching the Red Dust and Rein website last Tuesday with a single Facebook post to gauge interest, the response far exceeded expectations — over 60 people representing more than 200 horses reached out, from Geraldton down to Albany and Esperance. The post reflects on the mix of doubt and hope that comes with starting something new (I'd even been applying for jobs near Perth as a backup), and how this response has brought real confidence that full-time trimming is viable. The new challenge is logistics: with part-time stud work in Narrogin limiting your available hours, building out trimming runs without over-promising or burning out means starting slow — booking one client at a time and scheduling others around them. The post closes as an update and thank-you to everyone who submitted an Expression of Interest, letting them know I am working through them and building toward a regular, reliable run, even if it takes time.

Looking ahead, I've enrolled in a formal 12-month trimming qualification starting October 2026, with a view to building a life centred around horses. The tone is honest and reflective — less a story of failure than of necessary change, and a tentative sense that things may be coming together rather than falling apart.
